Husband and I selected this hotel as a change from the high rise area of Palm Beach with some trepidation.reviews seemed favorable, but found it a bit confusing as to which hotel we were booked into. If you snorkel, get along the rocks at the boundary of the lagoon for the best action! Snorkel gear is not provided. Towels are supplied and there is a bar, a restaurant and a gift shop. If you arrive later in the day, you may be left with a chair in the sun so be prepared. If you arrive early enough (say 8 am), you should be able to secure a palapa for the day. There are beach chairs and a few palapas. In the canal, you can see reef fish as they swim in the clear water. There is a sea water canal that cuts across the island. The six resident flamingos and dozens of iguanas, birds and fish add a lot of character you won’t find in many other beaches. Being on a private island, and a bit expensive to get to, the beach is fairly exclusive. The beaches offer protected lagoons bounded by heavy rock barriers that regulate wave activity and provide habitat for reef fish. Flamingo beach is one of two beaches on Renaissance Island. You can visit the beach on both the day you check in, and the day you check out. While staying at a resort in the high-rise area, we booked a night at the Renaissance to gain access to Flamingo Beach. It is surrounded by things to do day and night. This modern hotel dominates the marina area in Oranjestad. If you snorkel, get along the rocks at the boundary.
